We found out yesterday that the Jets were giving a tryout to Kellen Winslow II. Manish Mehta reports there are others who will get a look, including former Jaguars and Rams wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker.
Jets minicamp tryouts: Former Pro Bowl TE Kellen Winslow, WR Mike Sims-Walker, DL Leger Douzable, CB Mason Robinson, T Mark Jackson #nyj
— Manish Mehta(@MMehtaNYDN) June 9, 2013
The 28 year old Sims-Walker had his best year in 2009 with Jacksonville, registering 63 catches for 869 yards and 7 touchdowns. He only had 12 catches in 2011 and was out of the league in 2012.
Sims-Walker has largely been an underachiever in his career and one with a history of attitude problems. The Jets' wide receiver situation is less than ideal, but they might be better off seeing what they have in Stephen Hill than going with Sims-Walker. He wouldn't fit lower on the depth chart. That spot is better off going to a younger developmental player. It's tough to see what the veteran brings to the table at this point.
There isn't really any harm in trying him out, though.
