We all have favorite players. Sometimes a favorite player is the reason you start following a team. Other times you love a player because he embodies something in the team you love. Who is your favorite Jet of all-time?
Mine is Wayne Chrebet. I think sometimes people get carried away talking about Cinderella stories and virtues like heart, but Chrebet really embodied everything you would want in a receiver. He wasn't big. He wasn't fast. He wasn't strong. Somehow he made it work for eleven seasons with the Jets. Whenever the team needed a big catch, he was there to deliver it.
Maybe the whole underdog angle has become a cliche in sports, but there is something to be said for an undrafted free agent out of Hofstra who got cut after a tryout in the Canadian Football League going on to have a long and productive career with his hometown team.
Chrebet wasn't a Hall of Fame player. He never even made a Pro Bowl. I still can't think of many other players who got more out of their natural ability. That's why he's my favorite.
Who is your favorite Jet?
