Pro Football Talk reports Jeff Cumberland has signed his tender with the Jets.
Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland has signed his one-year tender offer from the club. The move was disclosed in the NFL’s Monday transaction report.
The tender is the 1 year, $1.3 million contract the Jets offered him.
As things stand right now, Cumberland is in line to be the starting tight end. Jeff saw the first extended action of his career in 2012, coming back from an Achilles injury suffered in 2011. He had 29 catches for 359 yards and 3 touchdowns.
If the Jets do not sign or draft a tight end, 2013 will be an audition for Cumberland to show he can play at a quality level in the NFL. Given what we have seen so far from him, however, the Jets would be wise to try and find a way they can upgrade this position.
