NFL Draft Results: Jets Take William Campbell With the 178th Pick

The Jets used their sixth round selection, 178th overall on Michigan's William Campbell. Campbell played on the defensive line for the Wolverines for most of his career, but Brian Costello says the Jets have something else in mind.

Campbell played on the offensive line in high school, and Michigan made an aborted attempt to transition him to offense in college.

He was one of the top recruits in the country coming out of high school, garnering a lot of interest from some of the best college programs in the country. His time with Michigan was unproductive, however. He was the college equivalent of a first round bust. He still is an imposing physical specimen with good athletic ability, an over 80 inch wingspan and big hands.

This pick is the kind of shot in the dark you would expect in the sixth round. Campbell figures to have an uphill battle to make the team, but there aren't many human beings with his physical build and athleticism. Maybe the Jets can mold him on the practice squad for a year or two. Brandon Moore was a defensive lineman in college too.
