With the 141st pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the New York Jets have taken Oday Aboushi, offensive tackle.
Like current LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Aboushi is from the University of Virginia where he played left tackle. However, some project him to right tackle, or the inside at guard. Aboushi is originally from Brooklyn and has visited the team, but this is an interesting pick.
Presumably, he's on the team to back up RT Austin Howard and possibly eventually replace LG Willie Colon. The biggest knock on Aboushi are his arms, which are relatively short for a tackle. However, he's extremely smart and should pick up the playbook quickly, much faster than it took Vladimir Ducasse.
It's a bit of a head scratcher for a pick, since the team just selected Brian Winters, however Aboushi does have starter potential, at least in my opinion. Perhaps the team is just looking at the lack of depth, especially on the offensive line, and trying to select the best player they can find to help back that up. I don't know of any draft expert that's upset with this pick, but there's still a lot of talent left on the board.
Competition is still the mantra of the Jets, and the game is won or lost in the trenches.
31 teams are gonna have a problem next year, that's a promise.— Oday Aboushi (@AboushiBands72) April 26, 2013
