The Jets have signed guard Stephen Peterman from the Detroit Lions.

I can't really say I get this one. Peterman is one of the least effective linemen in the league. He allowed the most hurries in the NFL among guards in 2012, an unfathomable 36. The selection of Brian Winters not long after this signing shows how much faith his presence inspires.
This one is right up there with the signings of Lex Hilliard and Calvin Pace. Why sign somebody you know is going to be one of the worst in his position at his league and has next to no upside? Why not just use the camp spot on a young player who might have a shot at contributing something positive to the team either in 2013 or at some point down the road?
