Adam Schefter reports the Arizona Cardinals have traded for Carson Palmer.
Cardinals trade for Carson Palmer now official. Raiders get back a conditional 7th-rd pick in 2014 if Palmer starts 13 games.

Albert Breer has the contract details.
Carson Palmer's deal with the Cardinals is worth up to $20 million over two years, with $10 million guaranteed.

Arizona gave up very little for Palmer. You really cannot acquire a player for much less than a conditional seventh round pick. The compensation would have been right had the Jets been involved.
That contract, however, makes me glad the Jets stayed out. Palmer is a significant upgrade over what the Jets have at quarterback, but he would be a one year stopgap. With dead money spilling into 2014, it would have been a tough sell.
As was the case with Kevin Kolb going to Buffalo, this makes it a bit less likely the Cardinals will reach for a quarterback, but they still do not have a long-term answer at the position.
