Former Jets tackle Jason Smith has signed with the Saints.
Saints announced they signed former Jets, Rams OT Jason Smith
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) April 11, 2013
Smith did not make much of an impact in his one season with the Jets. He was mainly used as an extra blocker in power run sets, a role he performed pretty well.
It would not have been the worst thing in the world to see the Jets bring him back for depth purposes. The athletic Smith might have been a worthy reclamation project. Although he performed so poorly that the Rams could only get Wayne Hunter as a return in a trade last year, his raw athletic ability made him the second choice in the 2009 Draft. (At the start of last year, the Jets had three of the top eleven picks in that Draft, Smith, Mark Sanchez, and Aaron Maybin.)
No great loss, though.
