As we projected, the New York Jets will not receive any compensatory picks. This isn't a particular surprise. You can read the specifics of who received what here. The formula is a secret, but here is what the release had to say about how the picks are determined:
Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.
Here are a few interesting tidbits that I've picked out:
- The Miami Dolphins are the only team in the AFC East to receive a compensatory pick, with two.
- The Jets are tied for second fewest compensatory picks since 1994, with nine.
- The San Francisco 49ers will enter the 2013 NFL Draft with seventeen draft picks.
While this wasn't much of a surprise, next year the team should expect considerably more compensatory picks. My early prediction is four.
The team will have seven draft selections this year, with one in each round.
