It's all gone quiet on the Butler front, well at least in terms of the Jets anyway. Before free agency kicked off there were reports we had interest, did we actually have interest? or were reporters just putting 2 and 2 together? Who knows, the bottom line is we should have interest. Some reports surfaced that he was visiting the Jets at the start of last week, we confirmed Goodson was visiting (and of course he is now signed) however we could find no information that suggested that Butler was visiting New Jersey.
However Butler did visit with the Steelers on Friday, fortunately he left without a deal in place. We don't know if it was a case of him asking for too much - which may be the reason why the Jets have gone quiet, or if the Steelers just decided to go in another direction. However there does seem to be some interest from the New Orleans Saints, which makes perfect sense with Rob Ryan the former Cowboy defensive coordinator now in charge of the defense in Jazz town.
We know that the Saints are hosting Nmandi, and we also know that they recently penned former Steeler CB Keenan Lewis to a contract, however as far as I am aware there are no plans for Butler to visit the Saints at the moment.
So there is still some hope that Butler would join the Jets as we continue to add low cost, high ceiling players looking to prove their worth in 2013. We'll keep you updated, but as Scott has recently pointed out - the team is conducting their business off the radar at the moment, which makes it harder to get news to you guys, even though it is a refreshing change and something I am enjoying.
