Willie Colon, a former right tackle who switched to guard last season, was just signed by the New York Jets for a one year deal worth $1.2 million. He has had some health issues in the past, such as a torn achilles tendon and tricep muscle. If Colon is healthy, however, this is a steal by GM John Idzik at such a low cost. Colon was formerly with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and is 29 years old.
Most analysts seem to be on board that this is a good signing. What's interesting is the media blackout that seems to be occurring; most beat reporters were caught unaware by the signing. It's a good change of pace from this past season's numerous leaks and anonymous sources. We'll have more on Colon soon, but for now, say hello to our new guard.
