Patriots Sign Leon Washington

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Patriots have signed former Jets running back Leon Washington.

Former Seattle Seahawks running back and return specialist Leon Washington has signed with the New England Patriots, the team announced Thursday.

Financial terms of the deal are not yet known, but a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Washington signed a one-year deal.

Washington is still one of the top return men in the game. He wasn't used much on offense with Seattle, but that could change with the Pats. They surely can utilize his pass catching skills and speed. A small, fast back like him can find success as a weapon in an offense that creates space. He could be like a better Danny Woodhead.

Not that the Jets were going to pose much of a challenge for the Patriots anyway, but now the Pats can pair their explosive offense with an equally explosive return game. Ugh.
