Jake Steinberg tweeted a little earlier that the Jets are apparently exploring signing Bears backup quarterback Jason Campbell. Hat tip to GGN member Broadway Jose.
In other news, the
#Jets are interested in QB Jason Campbell according to reports.#nyj
Adding Campbell in addition to David Garrard would probably be the best of a bad situation at quarterback. The Jets would have gotten the two free agent quarterbacks who have a track record of competency. Campbell is not a spectacular option, but he is a 60% career passer with a very low interception rate.
With Garrard and Campbell in camp, this would not be a window dressing competition. Mark Sanchez would have his work cut out for him just to get himself active on game day. For what it is worth, Campbell had his best season as a pro in Jim Zorn's West Coast Offense in 2009, although that was four years ago.
