NFL Free Agency 2013: Jets Re-Sign Josh Mauga

Rich Barnes-US PRESSWIRE

The Jets have re-signed linebacker Josh Mauga.

In three seasons with the Jets, Mauga has played in 29 games and has posted 27 tackles and one interception on defense and 40 tackles on special teams. Last season he appeared in five games before he was placed on injured reserve.

Mauga is getting kind of old to just be a special teamer. He will be 26 when the season starts. This might be his last chance to show he can make it for the Jets as a defensive player. Given the state of flux at linebacker, there could be room for him to earn some playing time as a primary backup. So far he has not done much in a few chances he's gotten to play. He's going to have to show something. There are plenty of younger players who can provide quality special teams play looking for a shot with an NFL team.
