New York Jets Rumors: Idzik to Target Victor Butler

The New York Jets are poised to make a quiet entry into free agency.

US PRESSWIRE

According to Manish Mehta, the New York Jets are targeting OLB Victor Butler of the Dallas Cowboys for free agency. Butler would replace Calvin Pace/Bryan Thomas at OLB, and, as of right now, would line up opposite of Garrett McIntyre.

As Mehta states, the Jets will likely not make a splash in free agency, but will quietly try to fill some of the many holes on the roster with cheap alternatives. In that sense, Butler would be a great addition to the team. He has performed well in limited time under Rob Ryan, so he is familiar with a similar system to that of Rex Ryan. He is 25 years old, and had 21 tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles last season. Butler is primarily a pass rushing OLB, which would be a sight for sore eyes on a team that hasn't had a viable rush LB in quite some time.

Butler would likely come cheap, and although an exact price is difficult to pinpoint, my guess is approximately $2-$3 million per year.

What do you think? Would you like this signing?
