Baltimore Ravens Win Super Bowl XLVII

USA TODAY Sports

Wow, they will be talking about that game forever. The Ravens won the Super Bowl tonight 34-31 over the 49ers. We almost saw a 22 point comeback aided by a 34 minute delay from a power outage that sapped the Ravens of their momentum.

Joe Flacco joins Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Eli Manning, and Ben Roethlisberger as current quarterbacks who have won Super Bowls. The other six are generally considered the best six in the sport. Is Flacco now part of that group? I sure think so. He finished a big postseason with a masterpiece 287 yard 3 touchdown performance. Some people might say this is evidence you don't need an elite quarterback. My lesson is the Ravens won because Flacco became an elite quarterback in front of our eyes. People have questioned him, and rightly so, but now he's a Super Bowl MVP.

The entire Ravens team deserves all the credit in the world, though. They had to overcome something unprecedented in this game that caused a monumental momentum swing, and they took the punch.

As for the 49ers, they really don't have a gripe. Yes, there should have been a penalty called on that fourth down play, but they kicked away a million chances. I'm not a big believer in experience, but I think you could see inexperience and nerves at play in all of the mental errors the Niners made.

Congratulations to the Ravens. Get used to seeing a ton of Ray Lewis for the next few months.
