Chad Kackert Update

John E. Sokolowski-US PRESSWIRE

A while back, the Jets seemed to be in the mix to sign running back Chad Kackert of the CFL's Toronto Argonauts, but the Grey Cup MVP signed back with Toronto last week (hat tip to Conor Orr).

Following Toronto’s Grey Cup victory, Kackert worked out for the New York Jets and was given the impression by the organization he figured in their plans. However, Kackert’s situation became much more uncertain after Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum was fired.

Kackert said the Jets were still pondering as late as Friday whether to sign him when he opted to take the Argos’ much more concrete offer instead.

Kackert would have been a nice guy to try out. He had success in Canada and seems to play bigger than his small frame. Time will tell whether the Jets missed out on him. As is the case with pretty much any project, we probably are not going to end up rueing the day we missed out on him.
