The Bills have re-signed quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson was thought to be a quarterback option for the Jets due to his history with general manager John Idzik and quarterbacks coach David Lee.
The Buffalo Bills pulled a surprise move and re-signed quarterback Tarvaris Jackson today. New head coach Doug Marrone said that there will be an open competition between Jackson and incumbent starter Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job.
This is not bad news. Jackson would have been fine as a training camp body or as a backup, but he was no answer at the quarterback position, even in the short term. One of my fears is the Jets getting a Jackson type player to compete with Mark Sanchez. Jackson is so underwhelming that Sanchez might actually have been able to beat him out for the starting job in a fair competition. This guarantees nothing, but I am glad Jackson is no longer an option to even tempt the Jets.
