Adam Schefter says signs look encouraging for Rex Ryan to return to the Jets in 2014.
Based on conversations he has had, one well-placed NFL executive said he believes Ryan will be back despite speculation that the coach would be fired after this season. Another well-connected source told ESPN that the atmosphere surrounding Ryan's status has turned from negative to positive.
At this point of the year, rumors are going to start flying, and they frequently will be vague and contradictory. For whatever it is worth, though, Schefter tends to be a cut above the rest when it comes to NFL information. If he says something, odds are there is some credibility to it even though Schefter goes to great effort to imply there are no guarantees and there are potential complications.
This is a bit of light for those hoping the Jets retain Rex in 2014. We will know for sure in a few days.
