NFL Playoff Picture: Jets Tragic Number Down to One

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets find themselves one loss away from postseason elimination. Another loss in their final two games would mean they could finish at no better than 7-9. Miami, the current leader for the sixth seed in the AFC is already assured of at least an 8-8 finish.

One more win by either Baltimore or Miami also finishes the Jets. Another Dolphins win assures Miami of at least a 9-7 record. The Jets can do no better than 8-8. A Baltimore win, which could come as early as tonight also assures the Ravens of 8-8. Baltimore wins the head to head tiebreaker against the Jets.

The Jets are also currently behind the San Diego Chargers by a game in the race for the sixth seed. The Pittsburgh Steelers have the same record as the Jets but also own the head to head tiebreaker so either of those teams winning out would eliminate the Jets.

The Jets are still mathematically alive, but they are as close to eliminated as a team could possibly be without actually being eliminated.
