Coming into the season, the New York Jets were supposed to be the biggest circus in the NFL. Their players stunk. Their coach stunk. Their draft stunk. Right? Maybe not. Entering Week 10 and enjoying their bye week, Gang Green sits at 5-4 and are the leaders for the final AFC Wild Card spot. Will they make the postseason? That's yet to be seen. That all being said, with five wins in nine weeks, the Jets have already exceeded the expectations of the media.
Let's take a ride on the way back machine and see what people said about the Jets prior to the season...
Jets dead last in ESPN rankings http://t.co/0Vt9Agsj7n
— ESPN New York (@ESPNNewYork) September 3, 2013
Rex has to be losing his mind right now. The Jets are giving him an expansion team to coach on a one-year contract. Dead man walking.
— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) March 15, 2013
With Darrelle Revis' flight 45 minutes from landing in Tampa, the Jets look like an expansion team. My column: http://t.co/ysjwK909Ar
— Gary Myers (@garymyersNYDN) April 21, 2013
"1 to 32, you have to put the Jets as the worst team on paper in the NFL" - Mel Kiper Jr on #NFLLive
— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) April 22, 2013
"The Jets are a glorified expansion team." - @MelKiperESPN #NFLDraft
— Lou Dubois (@dubois) April 26, 2013
The Sheldon Richardson draft pick tweets...
"The Sheldon Richardson pick is a real head-scratcher. It's a complete non-scheme fit & Jets have so many other needs" - @McShay13 #NYJPick
— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) April 26, 2013
BOOS in Radio City - @nyjets select Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson w/ 13th pick. Gruden: "He's got a long way to go if you ask me". #NYJPick
— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) April 26, 2013
Juding by the Sheldon Richardson pick the #Jets are already preparing for the transition to a 4-3 after they fire Rex Ryan in eight months.
— Scott Wright (@DraftCountdown) April 26, 2013
Biggest steal: Tavon to Rams at 8. Worst picks: E.J.Manuel 16 to Bills, Dion Jordan 3 to Dolphins, Sheldon Richardson 13 to Jets.
— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) April 26, 2013
The Geno Smith draft pick tweets...
Now THAT is typical Jets. Geno Smith will be a terrible NFL QB. Brutal.
— Jimmy Traina (@JimmyTraina) April 26, 2013
Mike mayock had strongly suggested before geno even got to the commissioner that being picked by jets could ruin his career
— daniel kaplan (@dkaplanSBJ) April 26, 2013
"This mess at the Jets QB position is typical of the mess that is the NY Jet organization" - Tedy Bruschi
— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) April 27, 2013
"I hope Geno Smith's not forced to start. I hope there’s another starting QB the first week for the Jets" - Mel Kiper Jr
— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) April 29, 2013
The fact that Geno Smith fired his agents because he wasn't the No. 1 pick in the draft just makes him perfect for the Jets circus.
— Jimmy Traina (@JimmyTraina) April 30, 2013
The Clowney/Bridgewater tweets...
For pessimistic/realistic #Jets fans: Kiper's 2014 Big Board: 1. DE Clowney, 2. QB Bridgewater, 3. WR Lee, 4. OT Kouandjio, 5. LB Barr.
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) May 9, 2013
Next Jets qb! RT @CRM_Stephen: Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville’s QB, Dressed in Drag For a Class Project (video) http://t.co/iQBzT0774d
— Jason McIntyre (@jasonrmcintyre) April 23, 2013
Silver lining to Revis deal. The Jets now have a good shot at Jadeveon Clowney, Marquise Lee or Teddy Bridgewater at top of 2014 draft.
— Gary Myers (@garymyersNYDN) April 21, 2013
Jets are unveiling their new 2013 marketing slogan today: "So … Jadeveon Clowney or Teddy Bridgewater?"
— Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) March 15, 2013
The man speaks the truth. RT @mbflofficial: Jets are gonna go 3-13 and get Clowney. Trust that.
— KFC, Kevin Clancy (@KFCBarstool) July 17, 2013
I want to wish Jadeveon Clowney the best of luck with the New York Jets in 2014.
— Richard Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) August 25, 2013
We at GGN aren't fully immune to this either...
I'm still feeling confident in my three-wins prediction for the #NYJ this year.
— Scott Salmon (@ScottSalmon48) April 8, 2013
(Scott would like me to note that after the Draft, he changed his Jets prediction to 5-11)
Fun question for #2014draft if you have the choice between Jadeveon Clowney or Bridgewater who do you take for #Jets?
— David Wyatt (@D_wyatt13) March 13, 2013
Finally my #Jets season prediction... If everything goes wrong: 4-12. If everything goes right: 9-7. Likely scenario: 6-10. #nyj
