New Orleans Saints at New York Jets Game Thread

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

The Jets play their final game before their bye this afternoon against the Saints. They were either go into the off week riding high off an upset win that puts them over .500 or on a two game losing streak.

The last time these teams played, it was 2009. Both were undefeated. The last time these teams played in the Meadowlands, it was 2005. Both teams were having rough years. The Jets suffered an incredible amount of injuries. That was easy next to what the Saints were dealing with in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It was the year before Drew Brees and Sean Payton arrived. Both teams picked in the top four of the NFL Draft that year.

This game has its own dynamics and is very important to both sides. The Jets are jammed in the middle of a crowded race for the final AFC Wild Card spot. The Saints are battling for the top seed in the NFC, potentially the difference between hosting the NFC Championship Game in the Superdome, one of the most difficult venues for a visiting team in the NFL, or going on the road to Seattle, another of the most difficult venues for a visiting team.

None of that will be decided today, but positioning for the home stretch will matter.
