A Celebration of the New York Jets Defensive Line

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

The Jets didn't play last week so this week's "Teammates of the Week" post will take into account the first nine games total. What was the best group on the team?

I think it was clearly the defensive line. During the first four years of the Rex Ryan Era, the Jets always could cover wide receivers as well as any team in football. People always said, "If the Jets could just rush the passer." Now the coverage has slipped, but the Jets have a stellar defensive line.

Muhammad Wilkerson has played everywhere on the defensive line and dominated just about everywhere on the defensive line. Sheldon Richardson has been a rock. People were excited about his upside, but Richardson is playing at a high level unusually early into his career. Damon Harrison has gone from fringe roster player to maybe the best run stuffing nose tackle in the NFL overnight. Kenrick Ellis and Leger Douzable have played well in limited backup work. If Quinton Coples gets going after his strong outing against the Saints, this might be the best young defensive line in football.

Use this thread to celebrate the awesomeness that is the Jets' young and studly defensive line.
