Week 8 NFL Power Rankings: Looking Through the Results

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Here are how some of the big media outlets rate the Jets relative to the rest of the league going into Week 8. After the big victory on Sunday, people are taking notice. NYDN, however, is not impressed.

SB Nation (Ryan Van Bibber): 16 (+4)

The jump from Mark Sanchez to Geno Smith must feel like liberation, from a cell block to a Parisian burlesque. And Geno is prone to some up and down play. Last week it was down; this week it was up. He threw for 233 yards and one touchdown. He also added a score on the ground, but he needs to work on that spike.

ESPN: 15 (+5)

Geno Smith gets the headlines, but let's give it up for the Jets defense, which is allowing a league-best 3.1 yards per rush this season.

FOX Sports (Brian Billick): 14 (+5)

The Jets snapped a six-game losing streak against the Patriots and have not lost back-to-back games. The Jets are not a playoff team, but they will play spoiler at some point in the second half.

Yahoo! (Shutdown Corner): 14 (+6)

Their four wins have come by 13 combined points. They're living on the edge, but they seem comfortable with it.

CBS (Pete Prisco): 13 (+5)

They have to be one of the surprise teams in the league. Rex Ryan is doing a heck of a job.

CBS (Pat Kirwan): 14 (+5)

The front office is going to have a hard time firing Rex Ryan. His defense is excellent, the players love playing for him. He has a 38-33 record, including two AFC championship game trips. After beating New England in Week 7, he is 4-7 vs. Brady.

New York Daily News: 15 (+4)

Opponents' dumb penalties have handed them two wins.

Where do you think the Jets should rank?
