[Edit by John B, 10/11/13 4:00 PM EDT ] We have an answer.
#Jets' Kellen Winslow has been suspended without pay for 4 games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.

Winslow’s suspension begins immediately. He'll be eligible to return to #Jets’ active roster on Nov. 4.

That would make Winslow OUT instead of doubtful for #Jets' game Sunday, of course.

Why the Jets apparently said he was doubtful is anybody's guess. In any event, that's a bad break for the Jets. Winslow has been a decent target for Geno Smith. Jeff Cumberland will need to build on his big night in Atlanta.

There is some very cryptic news out of Florham Park today regarding the status of tight end Kellen Winslow II.
Rex Ryan excused Kellen Winslow (doubtful) from Jets practice, but the coach said it had nothing to do with the lingering knee issues that have kept Winslow from practicing recently.
When asked if Winslow was excused because of a personal issue, Ryan became extremely vague.
"I’d rather not get into it," said Ryan. "I think it’s more of a…I excused him. I’ll just say that."
The Jets have become very tight lipped in the Idzik Era when a player has to miss time so it will likely remain unclear what the issue is until Winslow returns. Speculating seems useless. Hopefully it is not too serious for Kellen's sake. The Jets could use him also. Winslow has become a nice safety blanket for Geno Smith. His loss will probably be felt if he can't go against the Steelers.
