New York Jets General Manager Rumors: John Idzik and Jim Popp on the Radar

Jeff Vinnick

We have two new names in the general manager search that has been blown wide open in the last few hours.

Jason LaCanfora says John Idzik from the Seattle organization will also get an interview this week.

The Jets expanded GM search will continue this week with Steelers exec Omar Khan Thurs and John Idzik (SEA) on Friday. Both are excellent

Idzik has been with Seattle since 2007. Before then, he was with Arizona and Tampa Bay. He seems like a solid candidate from what I know about him. He was part of the Buccaneers' ascent under Tony Dungy and was part of putting the pieces together that eventually got Arizona to the Super Bowl in 2008 even though he wasn't there to reap the rewards. Obviously, the Seahawks are a hot team now too.

Manish Mehta says the Jets are looking to the CFL for a potential candidate.

Jim Popp, GM of Montreal Alouettes in CFL, is believed to be on Jets GM radar as well, I'm told. He had been in mix for Panthers job

I'm sure some are going to roll their eyes at this one, but it actually interests me. I might be the only man in America who can say this, but I follow the CFL. The Alouettes are one of its best run franchises and have been for some time. Popp has been their general manager for close to two decades. In the CFL, you don't get frontline talent. You have to be good at finding under the radar players.

This is definitely an under the radar kind of guy from the search firm.
