ESPN reports Jimmy Raye might not interview after all. Raye was passed over for the San Diego general manager job earlier today. The Jets sought and got permission.
#Jets GM update: Forget Jimmy Raye. That's not happening. Interview never scheduled.
Raye wasn't a superstar candidate, but a great run of drafting while he was in charge of San Diego's college scouting probably made him at least somewhat interesting. It's a bit disconcerting the Jets are sending second tier candidates like Raye away while going forward with bottom tier candidates like Scott Cohen and Brian Gaine. To paraphrase George Costanza, this search has become like an onion. The more layers you unpeel, the more it stinks.
I am left to hoping the Jets are throwing smokescreens out there and are really planning to hire a qualified candidate for the job. It is very tough to feel good about the direction this thing seems to be heading.
