New York Jets General Manager Rumors: Jets Ask Colts Permission to Speak With Tom Telesco

Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

Albert Breer reports the Jets are widening their search. They have asked the Colts for permission to speak with Tom Telesco but have been somewhat rebuffed.

The Jets, scrambling a bit after losing out on Caldwell, put in a request to speak with Telesco this week. But Telesco has pushed that back.

Telesco is interviewing in San Diego for the Chargers job, which seems to have his attention at this time.

I think he's squarely a second tier candidate. He spent the past season as Vice President of Football Operations. Prior to that, he was Director of Player Personnel from 2006 to 2011 and Director of Pro Scouting from 2004 to 2005. He also spent time as a scout with the Colts and Panthers before that.

On paper, he doesn't look a ton better than Scott Cohen. He had a prominent role in the front office that oversaw a complete depletion in talent and wasted some of Peyton Manning's prime years in the process. The work of rebuilding the Colts is not done, and one can argue their success this year was mainly about falling into the top pick where Andrew Luck was the obvious choice.
