The Bengals have today announced the released of wide receiver Jordan Shipley. Shipley is currently rehabilitating a knee injury that he suffered against the Denver Broncos in week two of the 2011 season. He tore two ligaments, his ACL and his MCL and although he played against ourselves last week, his recovery has been too slow for the Bengals who have decided to move in another direction.
In total Shipley played 17 times for the Bengals after being drafted in the 3rd round of the 2010 NFL draft. He has 56 receptions for 614 yards and three touchdowns, a very positive rookie season before having his 2nd year cut short.
Anyone who has been a member of GGN for the last few years will remember that I couldn't be any higher on Jordan Shipley heading into the 2010 draft. I thought he had and I still think he has a ton to give the NFL. His rookie year I saw the signs that made me believe he may well be the next Wes Welker.
Unfortunately I just don't know if he can come back from this injury and the last thing we need is another wide receiver on the shelf. However i wouldn't be against bringing him in and letting the Jets doctors take a good look at him.
Just as a reminder, here are some highlights from Jordan's college career in Texas
