Our dear friend Florio has some news about the Jets.

Former Dolphins S Yeremiah Bell visiting with Jets today, per league source.

Even though he will be working on the other side of the ball, one would imagine the opinion of Bell's former head coach, Tony Sparano, will weigh heavily on the Jets' decision making.

It is not clear the role in which the Jets would use Bell. If they are planning on using him as a backup for Laron Landry as an in the box type guy, I think it would be a sound move. Landry is obviously an injury risk, and Bell is a quality strong safety. The Jets could cut Eric Smith and create around $2 million in cap space minus whatever Bell costs.

I would be significantly less enthused if the Jets were planning on starting him next to Landry. Bell is not much of an answer to play the centerfield role on the defense, and his coverage is suspect. The Jets would be right back to having two safeties who play the run well but struggle against the pass.
