The Jets are set to sign DeAngelo Smith, a free agent safety, according to Manish Mehta
The Daily News has learned that free agent safety DeAngelo Smith will be visiting the Jets this weekend and is expected to sign with the team.
This is not a move to get somebody to push Eric Smith. Smith is purely a extra body for training camp. Maybe he can help on special teams. He was a fifth round pick by Dallas in 2009. He also spent time with Cleveland, Chicago, and Detroit that year. He has not been part of an actual game since 2009 and has been out of the league since the Browns cut him in early 2010. Since he spent time with Rob Ryan in Cleveland, maybe Rex Ryan got a good referral. His road to making the team clearly goes through Mike Westhoff.
The search for better safety play continues.
