Jets Re-Sign WR Scotty McKnight

Lost in the Tebow shuffle was the news that the Jets re-signed WR Scotty McKnight, Mark Sanchez's BFF and last years seventh round draft pick out of Colorado. McKnight did not play much in the preseason games last year, registering one touchdown. He was placed on the practice squad before tearing his ACL in practice. McKnight was just re-signed, however, and he'll have to pick a new jersey number, as his old #15 will now be worn by, you guessed it, Tim Tebow.

I've said this before, but you can count me as one of the McKnight supporters. He reminds me of poor man's Wayne Chrebet or Wes Welker, one of those guys that moves the sticks on third downs with reliable hands. With his signing, the Jets now have 10 wide receivers on the roster. Check them out after the jump.

The Jets receivers so far include:

  1. Santonio Holmes
  2. Chaz Schilens
  3. Jeremy Kerley
  4. Patrick Turner
  5. Logan Payne
  6. Eron Riley
  7. Scotty McKnight
  8. Royce Adams
  9. DeMarcus Ganaway
  10. Dexter Jackson
Obviously some of these guys are camp bodies, but it's clear that the receiving corps is very unproven and without much experience. There is a lot of potential, however, with some of these guys including Schilens and Riley. Rex Ryan said this morning in an interview that Braylon Edwards is an option, if healthy. From the sounds of it, the Jets will try and draft a starting-caliber receiver in the first few rounds of the draft, but if that does not happen, and Edwards is healthy, they will try and re-sign him to a contract close to the veteran's minimum. Let us know what you think of the receiving corps in the comments below.
