Week 17 NFL Picks

Tom Pennington

This is a tricky week to pick because we don't know who will play tight needing a win, how hard some teams who have everything locked up will try to win, and which teams will be motivated playing spoiler against a division rival. Below are my best guesses.

Buffalo over NY Jets

It's over for the Jets. They've lost to bad teams two straight weeks. I don't think they'll figure it out now.

Atlanta over Tampa Bay

Even though the Falcons have everything locked up, I think the Bucs have packed it in.

Cincinnati over Baltimore

Neither team has anything to play for so I'll take the home team.

Chicago over Detroit

The Bears keep their hopes alive. The Lions have been ready for their season to end for a while.

Houston over Indianpolis

The Colts are locked in to their Playoff situation. The Texans need a win or they could fall out of a first round bye. The sense of urgency makes the difference.

New Orleans over Carolina

I like the Saints at home and commend them for continuing to keep playing hard in what was a lost season.

Philadelphia over NY Giants

I see an upset in the works. The Eagles might not be very good, but they have been competing every week. Michael Vick has a chance to showcase himself. The Giants are in freefall, coming off two straight blowout losses, including one last week to a team that was in freefall itself.

Cleveland over Pittsburgh

The Browns have quietly put together a nice finish to their season. The Steelers have collapsed and just saw their Playoff hopes end in devastating fashion.

Tennessee over Jacksonville

The Titans have more talent.

Denver over Kansas City

Peyton Manning isn't letting the Chiefs deny him a first round bye.

Minnesota over Green Bay

The Packers aren't that good against the run. I think they get upset in a tough trip to the dome against a Vikings team that is essentially playing a Playoff game in this one.

New England over Miami

And it won't be close.

Oakland over San Diego

After showing some heart in a convincing road win last week in cold weather with an early start, it would be just like the Chargers to lay an egg at home.

Seattle over St. Louis

You think a Brian Schottenheimer coached offense is going into that stadium and beating that defense? I don't.

San Francisco over Arizona

The Niners will take out frustration for last week on a bad team.

Washington over Dallas

We all know the Cowboys are going to lose this game in catastrophic fashion. The only question is how it will happen. Will they just not show up and lose by four touchdowns? Will they blow a late lead? Will they have a go ahead score late in the fourth quarter wiped out by a penalty? You'll have to watch to find out.
