I know some of you are already looking to the offseason and what changes the Jets might make. SB Nation's Matthew Fairburn names a few people who might become hot candidates for general manager openings.
Marc Ross, Director of College Scouting, New York Giants
Eric DeCosta, Assistant General Manager, Baltimore Ravens
Omar Khan, Director of Football and Business Administration, Pittsburgh Steelers
Mike Maccagnan, Director of College Scouting, Houston Texans
Brian Gutekunst, Director of College Scouting, Green Bay Packers
We still have a long way left to go in the season, and there is no guarantee the Jets will even be making a change. It might give you a head start, though, to get familiar with these names. These certainly won't be the only qualified people considered for jobs across the league.
Some in this group look more attractive than others. Khan is a numbers guy who runs the cap for the Steelers. He doesn't have much of a personnel background. It's tough to imagine the Jets going to somebody with such a similar background as Mike Tannenbaum should they make a change, especially considering Pittsburgh's current cap situation being arguably worse than the Jets. It would be a tough sell to the fans.
Figuring out a potential general manager is tricky, tougher than figuring out coaching candidates. Unlike coaches, people in front offices are not front and center. We really do not know what they do or how much they get credit for the end result.
