Shonn Greene Hints at Divided Locker Room

In a piece by Michael Silver that was published tonight on Yahoo, Shonn Greene admitted there are rumblings in the locker room about giving Tim Tebow a chance.

"Something's got to change," Jets running back Shonn Greene told Yahoo! Sports. "When you get to the point where you're 3-6, and losing and losing, a couple of guys are like, 'Oh, what would happen [if Tebow played]?' But guys at the same time have faith in Mark, so it's kind of an up-and-down thing.

"You feel bad for Mark, but at the same time you want to win games. We're not here to protect people's feelings. If you want to win games, you've got to try something. If somebody's not getting the job done, you see if somebody else can do it. It's the same with coaching, or any position. You don't mean to belittle someone or say 'he sucks.' That's just the harsh reality."

This might be the worst attempt to veil criticism I've ever seen. The guys clearly do not have faith in Mark if that is the case, regardless of Greene's attempt to make it sound like everybody is behind Sanchez.

There are two things happening here. First is this team is once again airing its dirty laundry in the press. What happens in the locker room is not staying in the locker room. That could create trust issues that hamper what little chance this team has to turn things around.

The Jets have nobody to blame but themselves for this. There were no consequences last year for this. Back in training camp, they had an opportunity to send a message things would be different this year. When Chaz Schilens started complaining about Antonio Cromartie, the Jets could have sent him packing. He would have been an inconsequential guy to make an example out of. Maybe it wouldn't have done anything, but it might have sent a message that would prevent stuff like this.

The second and more damaging thing this indicates is this is a locker room that is divided and not fully behind its quarterback. Frankly, it's tough to blame them for that. It's also tough to blame anybody for thinking what we heard earlier today about Tim Tebow. The way they expressed the feelings through the paper was wrong. Just look at the way the coaching staff is using Tebow, though. It's obvious they didn't want any part of him. These players seem to view the Tebow trade as a publicity stunt. It's tough to blame them given how things have turned out. How would anybody feel if they were busting their hump, and management was more focused on publicity than winning?

This entire situation is a mess. This organization is in free fall. The blame starts at the very top with the owner, and should go down to anybody involved.
