If you haven't seen it already, Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News has written an article here in which several members of the New York Jets bash Tim Tebow. Mostly unnamed, which is typical of Mehta, but that's another rant for another day.
I have a few thoughts about what the article has to say, so here they are:
Matt Slauson is arguably our worst starter. He wouldn't be starting on almost any other team in this league, and yet he's going to go out of his way to bash another player? C'mon, man. I'll give him credit for putting his name on it, unlike the other cowards, but you just don't criticize another player for being bad when you're one of the worst on the team.
Where's Rex in all this? This is the staple of what happened last year, unnamed sources ripping the team apart. I don't believe the same thing is going to happen this year, as last year the locker room, by the reports of the beat reporters, had a different, tense feel to it, unlike this year where they seem generally united. But that doesn't mean Rex doesn't need to demand accountability from all the players.
Why are they ripping a backup? Who cares this much about a backup?
It's crazy how they're supporting Mark Sanchez, who has been godawful this year, and throwing barely above Tebow-levels.
On the bright side, at least Sanchez still has their support. They're using Tebow as a straw man to get out their frustrations, but it's nice to see Sanchez still has the support of the locker room.
I'm not going to get too worked up over a few anonymous quotes when things indicate the team is still (except for Tebow), united. One of the more interesting things about this is that it proves that Tebow will not start this year. It's public now; the team does not want Tebow. The players do not want Tebow. Rex will lose the locker room if he does start #15.
At the end though, I just feel bad for Tebow, a high character guy that works hard and is just getting ripped apart publicly by anonymous "teammates." If you want to stab him, do it from the front, not in his back.
What do you think about this? I'm expecting this to turn into a "FIRE REX!" thread, so please keep the shouting down.
