According to Jenny Vrentas, S Eric Smith has been playing injured:

Eric Smith has been playing past 5 weeks with a torn meniscus in knee. Happened in practice before Redskins gm. Will have scope Weds.

Rex Ryan alluded to this about a week ago, saying that Smith was not 100%. Smith was a terrible safety before this incident, and I think it only speaks to a bad job by the FO that they only brought in help (see Gerald Alexander) after Jim Leonhard was knocked out for the season. Think of it this way. We had four safeties on the roster by the end of the season. One was injured (Eric Smith), one was benched in the beginning of the year (Brodney Pool), one was a rookie (Tracy Wilson), and one was signed with a week or two to go and never actually saw the field (Gerald Alexander). That's bad work by the FO.
