Antonio Cromartie Shows No Signs of Injury; Working on Punt Returns?

Some beat writers have some interesting news about Antonio Cromartie.

Manish Mehta:

I've been told Antonio Cromartie (bruised lungs) did sprints in practice yesterday w/out a problem. Barring setback, he'll play Sun v Ravens

Jenny Vrentas:

Cromartie is also practicing punt returns. Rex said yesterday he's ahead of Mangold in terms of being able to play.

The first nugget is very good news. It sounds like Cromartie is not showing effects of his injury. The second is puzzling. Forget for a minute about the whole risking an important starting cornerback angle. Cromartie is coming off a game where he failed to catch a kickoff. Catching a punt is even more difficult with guys frequently flying down the field and getting into the return man's face as they are catching it. And the current punt returner, Jeremy Kerley, is coming off a game where he broke some nice returns. It is not as if he is playing poorly. There really is not much reason to think about Cro running back punts at this point.
