The Runway: Five Questions With Blogging the Boys, Part 4

My fourth question to Dave Halprin of Blogging The Boys deals with the third unit on the team. People know a lot about the offense and the defense. How about the special teams?

What is the current state of the Dallas special teams unit?

Well, some is good and some is not-so-good. Punter Mat McBriar is a stud. One of the best year after year, so no worries there. Also, we have some punt return guys who can make things happen. Dez Bryant can be used there, Bryan McCann has done good things, so that should be good. The real problem for the Cowboys is at place-kicker. David Buehler has a strong leg and can boom the ball for kickoffs, but his accuracy, especially in the clutch, is problematic. The Cowboys kept two kickers, and it's expected that Dan Bailey will do the FG/XPs. We have no idea how that's going to work out.

I am not sure either team should feel too comfortable if it comes down to a field goal. Like the Jets, this unit seems to have its strong points and weak points. It can win or lose this game.
