A Quick Look at Shonn Greene's Talent

Coming off a somewhat disappointing year, some people are down on Shonn Greene. I am not one of them. I think he has great ability and will flourish as the top dog in the backfield. Let me show you one clip that illustrates the ability Greene has. It is his touchdown run to put the Jets up 28-14 late in the fourth quarter of the Divisional Playoff game in Foxborough in January.

Check out the replay on this clip. The Jets have blocked on this play very well, but Greene has to win a one on one. In this situation, the Pats are selling out on the run. They have eleven guys they can send at the ball carrier. The Jets can only block nine since Greene has the ball, and Mark Sanchez hands it off. Greene ends up in a one on one with Jerrod Mayo, a really good linebacker against the run. Greene just toys with him. He displays strength as he stiff arms away any attempt at a tackle and then hits a second gear to run away from Mayo.

There are not many backs who are tough to bring down and have a burst like that to run from defenders.
