New York Jets Will Sign Aaron Maybin

The Jets will sign former Bill Aaron Maybin.

The former first-round pick by the Bills was cut loose in Buffalo after two disappointing seasons. Although Maybin struggled to adapt to the Bills' 3-4 defense last year, sources close to the former Penn State star believe that he'll be able to succeed in Rex Ryan's multiple-front defense. Another source told the News that Ryan believes that Maybin, the 11th overall pick in 2009, will be able to fulfiill his potential as an edge pass rusher in passing situations.

I like the front office, but that does not mean that I will unconditonally support every move it makes. I am struggling to find the logic behind being so quiet on the free agent market when good pass rushers were available. Matt Roth, Manny Lawson, and Tully Banta-Cain will not remind anybody of DeMarcus Ware, but they are better than Maybin and anybody else the Jets have currently. The team lost its two best pass rushing defensive linemen, Trevor Pryce and Shaun Ellis. They didn't do any of this so now they can now address the situation by bringing in a Vernon Gholston clone?

Maybin was as big of a bust as Gholston. He failed at two positions. The Bills saw nothing from him. There were no flashes where you thought he might become a good player if he could just look like that consistently.

I guess Maybin failed under Dick Jauron and George Edwards. Rex Ryan is a better talent developer. Perhaps Rex thinks he can get more. Maybe Maybin can help on special teams. I am just struggling to see the logic behind the way the front office has approached the pass rush.
