Erik Massany of Jets Twit has been watching NFL Network and has new speculation.

Ronnie Brown to the Jets? NFL Network is saying it could happen for him to run the wild can and replace Brad Smith's role.

I am not sure he would be replacing Brad Smith as much as LaDainian Tomlinson. I actually mentioned him as a potential upgrade a while back. He is younger and has far few touches and mileage on him. He is also a good receiver and blocker as a potential third down back (and carry splitter with Shonn Greene). If he is affordable, I say go for it.

I must say, I was hoping losing Smith would lead Brian Schottenheimer to get less "creative" and maybe scrap the Wildcat. That would probably be the downside to any Brown signing. Ronnie had a down year last year, but his run blocking was bad. He is injury prone, but a reduced role could keep him fresh.

Thoughts?
