We knew that the Jets spoke with Santonio Holmes early in the day. Jenny Vrentas reports the team has extended him an offer.
Now, on the first day of free agency, the Jets have extended an offer to Holmes, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations. That person requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak for either side.\

Earlier today, a person with knowledge of the Jets' plans said fellow Jets free agent receiver Braylon Edwards was still in play for the team, in case it was priced out of the Holmes sweepstakes. That person requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak for the team.
That certainly is not good news for those of us hoping the team would retain both. Braylon is probably going to have to really make good on his promise to take a discount and do anything to stay.
Suffice it to say, I agree with making Holmes the priority. I won't rehash this, but I think he is tougher to replace. At the bare minimum, I think the team would be well advised to bring one of them back.
I tend to think unless Holmes gets insane money somewhere else, he will be back. Mike Tannenbaum usually gets his man and gets creative to keep a guy he wants.
On another note, the Redskins resigned Santana Moss. How does this affect their role since they now have their top receiver back? I am not sure. They could use another playmaker at receiver, and they aren't bashful about spending insane amounts of money for big names.
