The Jets have reportedly been in contact with Nnamdi Asomugha. The free agent is the second best corner in the league.
Paying for Asomugha would be a challenge for the Jets, who have Darrelle Revis under contract for $7 million this season plus an $18 million option bonus and would likely have to sacrifice filling other needs. But never say never with the Jets, who have to be enticed by the potential lockdown duo of Asomugha and Revis. They are also known for doing their due diligence.
I don't see it happening, but maybe Mike Tannenbaum can pull a rabbit out of his hat.
I would not count on Asomugha taking less money to come to New York because he wants to pursue an acting career as some have suggested today.
It reminds me of a conversation Homer Simpson had with his brain on an episode of The Simpsons where he drops a peanut under his couch and reaches for it but finds money instead.
Homer Simpson: | Awww ... 20 dollars!? I wanted a peanut.
Homer's brain: | 20 dollars can buy many peanuts!
Homer Simpson: | Explain how.
Homer's brain: | Money can be exchanged for goods and services.
Homer Simpson: | Woo hoo! |
If Asomugha takes the highest offer, he will be able to purchase many flights from his home city to New York to pursue acting opportunities when he is not playing.
