Imagine the 49ers had an aging outside linebacker in his mid 30's. This guy was once one of the best pass rushers in the league. He had 10 seasons with at least 10 sacks. He had 4 with at least 15. A few years ago, he was coming off a string of bad seasons. He played motivated the next year had went over 20 sacks. Now he looks washed up but will be available for cheap. The guy can be pain, but there still might be something left if Rex Ryan can just get through to him.
Would you roll the dice on him for a cheap one year deal?

The situation I just outlined is similar to that of Randy Moss. The Jets might have a need at wide receiver. I know a lot of people would be vehemently opposed to bringing him in to replace Santonio Holmes or Braylon Edwards. He frankly would not be my first, second, or third choice. Even so, I do not think it would be a terrible gamble.
I get the feeling a lot of people are so opposed just because he is a former Patriot and acted like a jerk a lot while he was there. Pretend he spent 2007 to 2010 with the 49ers, though. Would you be so opposed? The Jets have found success with a lot of other problem children recently.
