The Jets stayed put at 30 and took Muhammad Wilkerson, the defensive lineman from Temple. The reaction here in Radio City Music Hall was mostly positive. I only saw two people look upset. There were audible chants of "Da'Quan Bowers" before the pick. SI's Tony Pauline chanted back, "You don't want him!"
The surprising run on quarterbacks seemed to help the Jets here. Since Gang Green had no interest in a quarterback, it allowed more attractive players to fall. I was a bit disappointed when it looked like Gabe Carimi was going to fall, but the Bears snatched him up beforehand.
I cannot say I am disappointed. While I think a pass rushing outside linebacker is unquestionably a bigger need, all of the guys available at the spot, namely Brooks Reed and Akeem Ayers, had significant question marks. I think Wilkerson will be pretty good. Others are much higher on him. It was the safe pick. It also gives the team a measure of insurance with Shaun Ellis' and Trevor Pryce's statuses up in the air.
We will have plenty more on this coming up. For the time being, share your thoughts below.
