More Prospects Come to Florham Park

A linebacker who might very well be New York's pick at 30 and an offensive lineman who would only be available in a dream scenario were among the latest Jets prospect guests yesterday.

The Jets continue a busy week of draft preparation, hosting six players at the Atlantic Health Training Center, including UCLA linebacker Akeem Ayers and Wisconsin tackle Gabe Carimi.

A pair of corners — Chykie Brown of Texas and Buffalo’s Josh Thomas — also stopped by along with Stanford DT Sione Fua and Louisville RB Bilal Powell.

The Ayers workout was very significant. He did not do much pass rushing at UCLA, which is what the Jets would probably have him do if they took him. This gave them an intimate chance to see how well this role would suit his skills and how smooth his transition would be. They also probably gave him a look at inside linebacker, where his big frame and athleticism might make him a potential replacement for Bart Scott.

We can always dream about Carimi falling far enough for the Jets to trade down, right?
