Calvin Pace Rates Among Worst Pass Rushers According to Pro Football Focus

Pro Football Focus, a website that watches every play came out with pass rushing grades, and Calvin Pace rates among the worst. He actually rated as the worst 3-4 outside linebacker in 2010.

I am not sure that is much of a surprise to anybody who watched the Jets last season. Pace was very disappointing as the alleged top dog for what was at times an anemic pass rush. When an offensive line blows an assignment and allows a free rusher, there is nobody I would rather have than Pace. That is not a backhanded compliment. Pace charges hard and delivers a big hit in that spot where other guys are more hesitant. Calvin also works hard to get off his blocks. The Jets could have used more from him in 2010, though.

While one can question whether a pressure is really worth .75 of a sack, it is undeniable Pace fell short in these areas. He has a lot of guaranteed still on his contract to the point where the Jets cutting him would have cost the Jets more against the cap than having him on the roster in 2011. The best case scenario is to have him recover. If not for the financials, he might have been another cut.
