I am always skeptical of the idea professional athletes will come together and choose to keep something special together instead of money. People look at the Miami Heat in the National Basketball Association. Arrangements like that are the exception to the rule, and those stars all ended up taking minuscule pay cuts over what they could have made elsewhere.
With that said, I do think the possibility at least exists for three guys on the Jets to come together. They all have expressed love for playing for the team and with each other. Those guys are Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, and Mark Sanchez. It is possible these guys would be willing to sacrifice a bit to stay together. Sanchez in particular seems like a real team player who wants to keep his targets around.
What if the three entered a room with Mike Tannenbaum and asked the general manager to figure out a way to take care of all three and make something work for the team's cap situation? Unlike Darrelle Revis and Nnamdi Asomugha, these guys have actually spent time together and enjoyed playing with each other.
I do not expect this to happen. I will not think less of anybody if it does not. These guys have themselves to take care of. If it does, though, a general manager as creative as Tannenbaum is should be able to figure out a way to structure things in a way worth everybody's while provided they will work with him.
