Kenrick Ellis has been tabbed as the starter Sunday in place of injured Mike Devito.
Rex Ryan said after Jets practice Friday that with Mike DeVito out for Sunday’s game against the Redskins, rookie DT Kenrick Ellis will get the start.
This will be Kenrick's second career start. He also started for Devito against the Chargers, but he left after two plays and did not return with an injury.
It will be interesting to see how he performs in an expanded role. This could very well be an audition for a starting job in 2012. Sione Pouha is set to become a free agent after the season. If Ellis holds up well in this game, it is entirely possible the Jets could let Pouha walk, save the money for another spot on the team, and go with the youngster in the starting lineup either at nose tackle or at end with Devito moving to the nose.
